Growing up, my mother always warned us that, unless we wanted to look like loose girls, we needed to leave some things up to the imagination. Translation: you can either show legs or cleavage, but not both. Not that I’ve ever had much to show off, but let’s just say that I looked like a loose girl on and off throughout college. Sorry, Mom. Well, along with a few other pearls of wisdom, I finally began taking that piece of advice to heart. That being said, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to flaunt a little something something every now and again. I don’t know what category this dress falls under; my mom did not give a rule on how much hip one can show. (Although, ask her and I lay money she will give you one.) But, long story short, I feel like this dress let’s me show a little skin without looking “loose.” And, hopefully, that will make my mama proud.
P.S. Full disclosure: this dress stopped traffic multiple times during the shoot. Clearly, you no longer have to go short or low-cut to turn heads. I may be on to something; perhaps the hip is the new cleavage.
