This is not so much a post about a dress, but rather a lesson I learned whilst shopping for said dress. A couple of years ago, I attended the now-defunct Barney’s Warehouse sale. Barney’s now has a online sale site, which is great. But unfortunately, the website doesn’t have one of the best parts of the original sale: the damages section. Though this requires a bit of patience (something I do not have unless I am being financially compensated), many sample sales have a section of clothing and samples that they cannot sell due to damages. These range from makeup stained collars to cat-attacked silk gowns. You just have to know what is salvagable and what is garbage. This dress is a favorite of mine, not only because it’s uniquely cute, but also because I got it at a ridiculous steal. Found amongst the damages, the skirt was slightly coming undone from the top. But, with a quick and inexpensive trip to the tailor, I had a perfect dress at a fraction of the price. The life lesson? Don’t turn your nose up on the damaged. With a little bit of thoughtfulness, you can very easily get some designer pieces for way under retail.
P.S. Stay tuned for my sample sale shopping guide. Coming soon!
