To hear the name Penny Lane probably makes your mind go to one of two places. One, you hear the Beatles tune. Or two, you think of Kate Hudson in Almost Famous. More specifically, Kate Hudson in that coat in Almost Famous. I know that I am not alone when I say that, from the moment I saw Cameron Crowe’s film, I lusted after that coat. (Check out Elle’s article about the coat in question here.) I left the theater knowing two things- I wanted to be Penny Lane (I had a thing for musicians at the time) and I wanted that coat. Well, I didn’t really have the guts to quit school and run away with a band ala Miss Lane. I did, however, have the commitment to search for that perfect shearling coat. And search I did. For years. Until one day, in the heat of summer, I came across this gem. Not quite the spitting image, but it did have the fur trim, soft suede and 70s vibe I was after. Part Penny Lane, part Russian ice dancer (I don’t know why, that’s just what comes to mind), this coat has become one of my winter staples. Although I never ran away with the band, I can still feel a little rock’n’roll every time I slip it on.
