I have always had a fascination with Japanese culture. Which may be a bit odd, considering that I’m part Chinese, but that’s beside the point. I am intrigued by their polite society, attention to the smallest of details and flair for fashion. So, when my mom brought this beautiful men’s kimono back from Kyoto, you better believe that I “borrowed” it. There is something so alluring about a kimono. The relaxed fit combined with the beautiful prints and fabric make it feel like you’re wearing a piece of art. In the more high-end cases, you actually are. Though this specific jacket was made for a man, I think it adds a graceful, feminine touch to my otherwise basic white t-shirt and jeans. I know that there are a lot of mainstream kimono-esque jackets out there right now. While I love that they are so accessible, I’ve never been one for accessibility or the mainstream. If (like me) you’ve yet to visit Japan, might I suggest scouring Ebay and Etsy? You never know what type of treasure you may uncover.
