This is a post dedicated entirely to sandwiches. Or, what I may be so bold as to call the best sandwiches in Los Angeles. As much as I consider myself a budding foodie, I still have a soft spot for the basics. A good sandwich is one of my all-time favorite foods. And no one does it better than Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese. Their sandwiches are crave-worthy. (I actually didn’t know it had such a long name until I Googled it a couple of minutes ago. Everyone I know refers to it as Larchmont Wine & Cheese.) I realize that this is a sensitive subject for locals. Many rank Bay Cities as their top choice. Well, maybe it’s the Eastsider in me, but I’ve had Bay Cities and, in my humble opinion, it doesn’t come close to Larchmont Wine & Cheese. The experience here brings to mind the “Soup Nazi” episode of “Seinfeld.” Basically, they make seven types of sandwiches (check out the menu here) and they make them very well. The line is long and special orders are frowned upon. I have had every sandwich except for the Black Forest Ham (the members of my family are not fans of ham). Everything is amazing, but I am especially partial to the Turkey and Salami. Although the Tuna and Prosciutto are pretty incredible, too. (I realize that I just named four of the seven sandwiches as favorites, but they all are really that great.) What makes their sandwiches so special? Besides everything? The meat and cheese are of the highest quality. The bread is baked fresh daily. (They serve sandwiches from 11 am to 5 pm, unless they run out of bread sooner. Which they usually do.) And they put the most delicious olive oil and balsamic vinegar on everything. The sandwiches are a bit gourmet without alienating the picky eater. Larchmont Wine & Cheese also carries a pretty fantastic wine selection. But, I wouldn’t recommend over-indulging. You won’t want to forget a second of your sandwich-eating experience.
P.S. I HIGHLY recommend phoning in your order, so that you don’t have to wait. The lines can be brutal, especially on Saturdays.
