In regards to DTLA (Downtown Los Angeles to the layperson), I am an OG. Meaning that I have now been here for over a decade. Yikes! When I tell people this, they are typically impressed. Namely because I have been Downtown since before it’s massive revitalization. Which gives me major street cred; people assume that I moved down here because I was trendsetter and sensed the impending gentrification. Which, unfortunately, it totally untrue. I did not move Downtown because I am an urban trailblazer. I moved down here because it was close to my university. And I did not have some preconceived notion of the looming coolness that would become my neighborhood. Downtown just happened to become hip while I was here. I’d like to think that I was a contributing factor, but I somehow doubt it. Frankly, I don’t even live in the edgy part of it. Nonetheless, I love DTLA. I am proud to be a longtime resident. Initially, I may have moved here for purely logistical reasons. But, the continual development, creativity and exploration are what’s kept me put. In that spirit, this week on The LA Survival Guide, it’s all about DTLA. A few photo shoots, shot Downtown, whilst sporting the appropriate apparel, as well as some of my favorite neighborhood haunts. Whether you are a local or an out-of-towner, definitely put Downtown at the top of your list. It’s constantly-evolving offerings make it a must visit for trendsetters and wannabes alike. Don’t worry. The fact that you’re down here will give you definite street cred. Take it from me, an OG.
