My mom used to dress me. I mean, I know that all of our moms used to pick out our clothes at some point in our lives. But, my mom had a say for longer than I’d like to admit. I remember specifically one incident where we were disagreeing over what I would wear to my best friend’s Bat Mitzvah. My mother eschewed my fashion-forward palazzo pants in favor of a cupcake-esque dress. She obviously won and I looked like a cream puff. While I remain firm that the pants would have been a better choice, I do admit that she was right in a lot of other instances. I find myself returning to her preppy Laura Ashley and sailor dresses of my youth. Even wondering why she got rid of her matching dresses (because she always matched me and my sister), as they would now be pieces that I would love to get my hands on. What I then thought of as regrettable outfits I’m now coming to realize were in fact regrettable giveaways. Though I no longer have our sailor dresses (which we wore on our namesake sailboat, no less), I do think this nautical coat is a pretty cute consolation prize. And the matching dress underneath (saved for a future post) puts the outfit over the top. My mother would definitely approve.
