When someone invites you to workout for four hours on a Saturday night, the obvious answer is ‘no.’ But when that someone is Nike, you make a little room in your schedule. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Nike+ Training Club Tour in Downtown LA. Quite frankly, I didn’t know what to expect. The evening’s festivities were kept deliberately hush-hush. We received little more than a when and where, along with a vague schedule. Now I am not an evening exerciser. I prefer to get it done before noon. But, for this Nike+ Training Club Tour, I made an exception. In return, I was treated to one of the cooler events I’ve ever attended. In what can only be described as part-rock concert, part-workout extravaganza, Nike Women transformed my favorite DTLA shoot location (under the 6th Street Bridge in the Art’s District, seen here and here) into a tiny urban oasis, complete with areas to dine, shop and, obviously, sweat. Maintaining the DTLA aesthetic, workout studios were replaced with graffiti-emblazoned warehouses. Everyone at the Nike+ Training Club Tour was assigned to a specific group with which you rotated through four different workouts. Nike brought in some of the top studios in Los Angeles: Groov3, Pound, Flywheel and, my home away from home, Prevail. Over the course of the Nike+ Training Club Tour evening, you may have found yourself dancing through music video routines, getting your cardio by pounding away with weighted drumsticks, spinning in a studio under the stars or up against the ropes in a circuit boxing class. When you weren’t fatiguing every last muscle, you were free to wander and shop the various boutiques (complete with a limited-edition, available for one night only sneaker, because of course), munch on catering from Whole Foods or stretch out in the open studios. Let’s not forget the major goodie bags, jam packed with gift certificates and treats galore. All in all, Nike+ Training Club Tour was a fitness fiends paradise. And, in typical Nike fashion, the night ended in fireworks. Literally. My only complaint? That I’ll have to wait 365 days until I can do it again.
