I recently read an article from one of my most trusted fashion blogs about dressing for your age. It came as no shock to me that I break many of these rules. According to the post, my saddle shoes and big headbands should have met the trash years ago. While I am a definitely believer that age is relative and wear whatever makes you feel beautiful, there is merit to the idea that some styles should be left to the younger set. I find this especially true when it comes to revealing clothing. Have you ever walked behind a woman wearing a teeny tiny outfit? And you think to yourself, ‘man, that teenager has guts.’ Then she turns around and she is your mother’s age? Shocking, isn’t it? (You see this a lot in LA.) While I am all for playing with styles, regardless of age, at a certain point, you need to cover up a bit, no matter how hot you look. If you’re concerned that throwing out your bandage dresses will kill your vibe, fear not. There are plenty of ways to look sexy without giving up the goods. A few of my personal faves include sheer & see-through, lingerie-inspired and, as shown today, cutouts. Just like transparent fabrics, cutout clothing and accessories allow for sneak peeks of skin without giving it away for free. Plus, I love that removing a sliver of fabric can elevate boring basics to unique staples. People can be sexy at any age. But, there’s nothing sexier than aging gracefully, while comfortable in your own skin. At least, that’s what people tell me. I’m still learning as I go.
