Where does confidence come from? Does it come from everyday workouts? Professional hair and makeup? Supportive family and friends? Yes and no. Because I have all of these but, when it came to doing a swimwear shoot, I couldn’t pull the trigger. The closest I could get was to put on a matching bra and panties set (and a very modest one at that) under a sheer dress. How’s that for confidence? I realize now as I’m writing this (I’m a little slow on the uptake) that it actually takes some confidence to step in front of the camera week after week. To publish my thoughts, day after day, for all the world, supportive or not, to read, dissect and, yes, judge. Because though I may be judging you, let’s face it, you’re also judging me. When I’m hiding behind my clothes, that’s one thing. But, for whatever reason, shooting in a bikini felt like more than just baring my body. And I just wasn’t ready for it. So, again I must ask, where do we get confidence? The obvious answer is from within. It doesn’t matter how many mantras you say or sit-ups you do; confidence doesn’t come from so-called beauty. Beauty comes from confidence. It’s something I’m working on every day. Until I get there full-time, I’m taking advantage of the little bursts of confidence as they come. Consider this a sneak preview.
