I’ve had a flair for the dramatic for as long as I can remember. Not that I’m prone to making scenes or anything. But let’s just say that no one could ever accuse me of being vanilla. I can be fairly mellow in my day to day life. But, when I’m passionate about something? Forget about it. I laugh hard and I cry hard. I love hard and I grieve hard. It’s just how I am. Given that The LA Survival Guide is my baby, it’s no surprise that I always want to go big. A typical pre-shoot with me goes something like this- “You know what would be cool…? What if I wear an evening gown and sit in a lion enclosure/walk in a river basin/climb some rocks on the beach…?” Sometimes this winds up in disaster. I end up wet and dirty. I guess that’s not a disaster, but it’s not ideal. But, more often than not, taking those chances results in some pretty dramatic photos. Which makes all the filth and grime a distant memory. I’ve taken to scrapping shoots that I don’t think make the impact or hold up to aesthetic I’m trying to create. I was extremely pleased with this set of photos. The juxtaposition of glamor and nature is just so LA to me. And walking my dog on the beach in an evening gown? That’s just so me.
