Does this outfit go together? No. Do I care? Not at all. Why? Because I’m a fashion blogger. What I’ve found over the past year or so is that being a fashion blogger allows you a certain degree of flexibility and forgiveness when it comes to…well, a lot of things. First, and most obviously, is the fashion. I am more adventurous with my styling than I was when I started. While fashion has always been a hobby, it is now blossoming into a profession. As such, I find it within my job description to be somewhat on the cutting edge. Or, if not cutting edge, at least ahead of the trend. And how am I to recommend the latest and greatest if I don’t give it a test run myself? This experimentation can lead to some great successes as well as some slightly embarrassing failures. But, hey. It’s all in a day’s work when you’re a fashion blogger. I am also able to better justify my shopping habit. Not only do I “need” these items for my blog, they are also write-offs. Just as crucial, if not more so, than the fashion and the shopping is the freedom blogging has given me to explore. Not only places, but ideas. Starting this blog has helped me get to know my city and myself much better. I check out new venues in the name of The LA Survival Guide. And writing allows me to be a bit more candid than I would in real life. Being one step removed from my audience helps me share ideas and be more vulnerable than I would otherwise. In a nutshell, being a blogger is pretty awesome. When I used to shrink at critiques of my risk-taking ways, now I can hold my head up with pride. Because I’m an authority. I’m a fashion blogger.
