Growing up, my mother refused to tell us our IQs. I assumed that this was for one of two reasons…A, she did not want us to become too conceited and reliant upon the high numbers; or B, she feared we would be embarrassed and eventually succumb to the low ones. Or C, which just occurred to me now (perhaps the fact that I am so late on the uptake answers the question for me), there was too great a disparity between the triple digits of one daughter and the double digits of the other. And considering that while one plugs away at med school (at an Ivy League, no less), while the other sweats over the top ten ways to style her jeans, well…you do the math. Of course, I kid. I realize that I am plenty bright. Or, at least, I get by. It was only natural that when my sister headed back to school a couple of years ago, people wanted to know if I might be interested in a career in medicine, as well. And, if not medicine, at least law school. Or a masters or doctorate in something. And I thought about it. A lot. I knew that I would love to return to school. I’m one of those nerds who enjoys learning simply for the sake of learning. But, I also knew that there was so much else that I wanted to do. Like travel. And create. And just explore and have a good time! As much as I would love the process of pursuing a secondary degree, in the end, it would just get in the way of my creative process. Which is why I’ve put it on hold. Never say never, but at least for now. Plus, I really love what I’m doing. I love writing, styling, modeling, all of it. Discovering if you really can pull off a denim shirt with jeans may not be brain surgery. But, I’m having a good time. And, genius or not, isn’t that kind of the point anyhow?
P.S. Remember how last week was in honor of all things denim? Well, given my bananas schedule, that didn’t happy. Let’s see if I can do any better this week. Happy Denim Week 2.0.
