At what point did this shift from a fashion blog to a tell-all confessional? Oreo. But lately, when I sit down to write about a hemline, I find my mind wandering along other lines instead. Less sartorial, more satirical? The crazy thing is, that for a website that’s intended to be about style, my personal posts are the most popular. It’s kind of like reality TV, I suppose. People don’t just want to look at the pretty people. They want the behind-the-scenes scoop about their real lives. Their triumphs and struggles. Their ups and down. What they ate and how they slept. All while they’re picture perfect, of course. Which isn’t reality. But it allows the audience to experience a closeness to the “characters” that they might not achieve from a scripted program. Maybe The LA Survival Guide is like my own little reality show. Me, in hair and makeup, talking about life, with a professional photographer in tow. Isn’t that kind of the definition of surviving in LA anyhow?
