When I look back to my childhood, I remember a shy little chickadee. But, when I look at these pictures, I’m reminded that that wasn’t exactly the case. I’ve always had a bit of a wild side. At least fashion-wise. This coat was purchased on my first big international trip. In junior high. I don’t know what’s more insane. That I’ve held on to clothing for that long or that the clothes still fit. Whatever the case may be, I remember it well. My mom took me to London during my semester break. (My family still makes fun of me because I asked what language they spoke there.) Among the classic sightseeing, we did a fair amount of shopping. My mom thought I was nuts, but when I saw this coat, I knew that I had to have it. The Brits have always been on the cutting edge of fashion and this coat was no exception. The crazy thing is, in all these years, I don’t think it’s ever been out of style. It cracks me up that wee me had a developing sense of style way back then. Not to say that I haven’t made my fair share of mistakes. But, in my mind, this coat has always been a win. What can I say? I was a chic little chick.
