I received an email from a friend the other day. He wrote that when he puts his shoes on, he now asks himself one question- would Camille approve? Upon reading this, my first feelings were those of guilt. I felt bad that, after a drawn out rant on the importance of men’s footwear (relive the madness here), I made this guy self-conscious each time he slipped on his sneakers. But then I got over it. I realized that perhaps I was doing a service to the male community by letting them know just how much they’re missing out on. Shoes aren’t meant to be an afterthought. Oftentimes, they are my first thought! Take today’s kicks for instance. I did not grab these striped wonders as I ran out the door. In fact, the entire outfit was planned around my shoes, down to the sparkle in my sweater and the metallic strip across my bag. Unconventional? Perhaps. But it’s that exact sort of unconventional fashion-forwardness that earns my stamp of approval every time.
