The traffic, the plastic, the lack of authenticity…the traffic! Los Angeles may have a tainted reputation, but it’s also the place where I became myself. I was made in LA. I was born and raised in San Diego. Ideal a place as is it to grow up, I never felt like I fit in. Maybe because there weren’t a lot of kids that looked like me. Maybe because I was an artist while most of my girlfriends were jocks. I don’t know. Either way, when I moved to Los Angeles, something clicked. I no longer was constrained to the expectations of my surroundings. There were people like me, trying new things, stepping outside of the box. And I was able to step outside the box of myself and find out who I was on my own. It turned out that I wasn’t the quiet wallflower. I was a little bit messier and adventurous than I was expected to be. And that was ok. But, I wouldn’t have discovered that side of myself without LA. When I saw this “Made in LA” wall, I knew that I had to shoot there ASAP. Because wherever I may land, Los Angeles will always have a special place in my heart. So, no matter how many times people criticize the city, I will always defend it. It’s where I found me. I was made in LA.
