When it comes to trends, what separates the setters from the whores? A trendsetter is an individual who is drawn towards looks for no other reasons than she loves them and thinks they look cool. She adopts said looks as her own, regardless of what is in fashion. And, if her style is on point, she sparks a new trend. A trend whore is what happens after the setter has made her mark. Instead of creating trends, she waits for styles to be established and validated as chic. Only then will she don such items. Not because she loves them but because they have already been declared hip. You may find her sporting a slew of trends at once. I aspire to be the former. Some of my stuff is in style. Some of it is downright weird and, though I may garner glances, I wear it because it makes me smile. Today’s look represents a little bit of both. I saw dramatic sleeves come about a few months ago and immediately scooped up this blouse. And the pants? Well, they were a really good deal and reminded me of artwork. Are they in style? No clue. I just like them. Being a trendsetter isn’t about looking perfect. To think outside of the box means you will have your fair share of fails. But it’s all about being true to yourself, regardless of the trends. That, and having a good time. Two ideals I can totally get behind.
