As I sit here typing, the irony of the title, White Girl Problems, does not escape my 3/8 Chinese self. Nor does the fact that I am labeling the issues which have kept me from blogging for the past couple weeks “problems.” Hence, the watered down version, also known as white girl problems. For those of you that aren’t familiar, white girl problems are the quote, unquote struggles that people with actual troubles dream about. Examples of challenges include, but are not limited to, my bikini waxer cannot fit me in before my last minute jaunt to Hawaii, my convertible top is stuck in the open position and my new Jimmy Choos went on sale the day after I bought them. Life’s great problems these are not, but they are perfectly acceptable reasons to complain to your BFF or blog audience. My time-thieves as of late are greater than body-scaping, but less than world peace. In a nutshell, non-blog work has been non-stop since I returned from Asia. Blog and Instagram business has been growing, which is awesome, but it leaves me with less time to write. I am about to close on a new home and immediately go into a remodel, so I get to spend evenings meeting with contractors and looking at door knobs. And I am trying to spend a little less time glued to my computer and a little more time socializing in an attempt to have a life. I am well-aware that these are non-issues and white girl problems. In reality, they are privileges. If I were to rephrase these in the positive, it would go something like this- I have a job, I get to travel around the world, my side gig is thriving, I can afford to purchase and remodel a home and I have lovely friends and family. These are all facts. On the flip side, all of these gifts do take time away from one of my very favorite things- blogging. As we hashtag on Instagram, #thestruggleisreal. But then I give myself a reality check. I take the 30 second walk from my house to the beach and frolic around on the sand. Because, knock on wood, I am lucky that my problems don’t go beyond those of a white girl.
