Believe it or not, my favorite Thanksgiving tradition has nothing to do with the food. Much as I love a good slice of pumpkin pie (which my mother forgot this year btw), my favorite ritual begins before the dinner is served. It’s when we all take a few minutes to share what we’re most thankful for. Because, at the core, that’s what thanksgiving is all about- taking a day to count our blessings and give thanks for all we’ve been given. I find this tradition is so heart-warming that it’s something I’ve incorporated into my daily life. Each night in bed, I think of ten things I am grateful for. They can be big, like my close family or traveling the world. (Pip, obviously, always tops the list.) And they can be smaller, like the fact that I made it to the gym that day or had a kind moment with someone. It’s a bedtime ritual that I’ve adopted over the past few years to set my attitude in the right place. Life can be stressful and overwhelming at times. It’s easy to get caught up in all it appears we don’t have. But, there are always at least ten things I can be thankful for. This pause helps remind me of how very fortunate I am. Gratitude shouldn’t be reserved for once a year. Taking a moment to count my blessings allows me to operate from a place of love and positivity. Definitely something I can use on the daily.
