Life is good. I’d be the first to tell you that I’ve hit the jackpot in so many ways. I’m not boasting, just thankful for all of life’s blessings. I thank my lucky stars for quite a bit and high on my list is The LA Survival Guide. When I started this little blog a few years ago, it wasn’t with any intentions beyond creative expression and getting over a breakup, both of which it heartily satisfied. What I didn’t expect was the doors it would open. I’m not gonna lie. It’s pretty awesome to get paid to take pretty pictures and write snappy quips- two things I’d happily do for free. But an unexpected perk was getting to meet so many cool, inspiring people. I’m a creative at the core. Living in LA and working in the film industry, it was easy to find like-minded spirits. When I made the switch to San Diego and the corporate world, the move made me feel detached and alone. Not lonely, per say, as the majority of the people I love live here. But definitely isolated, no longer surrounded by artsy sorts like myself. The LA Survival Guide has allowed me to keep my inner artist, and the connection with that community, alive and growing. I am continually inspired by the creators I’ve met while blogging and it’s incredible to know that, every now and again, I am a source of inspiration, as well. For instance, take today’s ensemble. I was over-the-moon when one of my favorite designers, Vivian Chan, named a design after me! Both a top and a dress, could the Camille be any more Camille?! I don’t think I could make something more “me” if I tried. All coolness aside, it’s amazing to know that even though I spend Monday through Friday at my office desk, I’m still touching people out there and being inspired in kind thanks to Vivian Chan. It makes all the crazy hours and running around worth it, am I right?
