That’s Interesting

I can’t pinpoint when it started, but I have a recent obsession with all things “interesting.”  Basically, I’ve deemed myself qualified to categorize nearly every person, place or thing I come across as interesting, or not.  No one is immune to the labeling.  As such, if you’re interesting, you’re in.  Not so much?  I’m probably not calling you back.  Reading this back, I’m sounding like a jerk, so let me explain. Top 10- Reasons to Visit Nairobi (Part 1)

giraffe manor nairobi, top ten nairobi, giraffe center nairobiWhen my colleague told his friend about my journey to Kenya, he responded “Hasn’t she ever heard of Hawaii?”  While I’d like to say that this guy’s reaction was unique, that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Before I left for Africa, I was met with a huge amount of skepticism, negativity and questioning.  Why would I want to go somewhere so foreign?  Don’t I know how dangerous it is?  What about the terrorists?  And Zika??  (If I had a dollar for every person who warned me about Zika…) Continue reading “Top 10- Reasons to Visit Nairobi (Part 1)”

Fancy Pants

Do you ever wake up in the morning, after hitting the snooze a few too many times, and say to yourself, “it feels like a sweatpants kinda day”?  If you are me, then this happens about every other day of the week.  Unfortunately, the world does not look kindly upon sweatpants, which is a stigma that I will fight with all of my snoozing-hitting might. Just a Little More

Unique printed skirt and top: Why more is betterI hate to say it, but I’m a more is better kinda girl.  And I’ve been using the phrase, “just a little more,” just a little too often as of late.  Just a little more sleep as I hit the snooze button and sleep through Pilates.  Just a little more dessert, taking me from just right to completely stuffed.  Just a little more eyelashes, as I go from Bambi to lady of the night. It’s About Time

When I first sat down to write this post, I titled it “Better Late than Never,” rather than it’s about time, only to find that I’d already written a post with that exact title.  I had a whole clever opening about how, given my lack of timely posts, I should change my name from The LA Survival Guide to Better Late Than Never.  Guess I’m not as clever as I thought. Continue reading “It’s About Time”

What to do when you're undecided and don't know what to wearI have more clothes in my closet than anyone I’ve ever met.  (I am not bragging.  I actually find it rather embarrassing, but it’s the truth.)    Yet recently, I’ve been having a lot of those “I don’t know what to wear” moments. Safari Barbie

Safari Barbie by popular Los Angeles fashion blogger The LA Survival GuideJambo!  As you know, I recently returned from Kenya (and have an impressive five words of Swahili to show for it).  While I am still trying to process my weeks there (and combat the 10 hour time difference), I can say that the experience was, in a word, overwhelming. I Dream of Africa

I am an emphatic person.  I use the word “love” about a thousand times a day.  I love burritos.  I love sleeping in.  I love a good parking spot.  But, when it comes down to it, the things I love, and I mean really, truly love, I can count on my two hands. Continue reading “I Dream of Africa”
